Planting trees in the right places helps reduce heating and cooling costs by providing shade and wind protection for nearby buildings. MidAmerican Energy’s Trees Please! program supports Iowa communities by funding tree planting projects near publicly owned facilities.

Get reimbursed for fixing storm water problems—Urbandale’s grant program helps cover the cost of eligible improvements.
Trees Please! provides $1,000 or more in grant funding to Iowa municipalities in MidAmerican Energy’s service area to plant trees near public buildings such as libraries, schools, and city facilities. Trees must be placed where they provide energy efficiency benefits.
Eligible applicants: Iowa municipalities in MidAmerican’s service area
Applications accepted year-round
Applications received by January 31 are considered for spring awards
Later applications roll into the following year
Strategic tree planting is a low-cost, long-term way to reduce energy use, manage heat, improve air quality, and enhance public spaces. Since 1998, the program has awarded over $4.6 million statewide.

The City will reimburse 50 percent of the qualifying project costs, up to a maximum set for each type of project. This is an opportunity to invest in your property while reducing out-of-pocket costs. Note: The program does not fund interior repairs, aesthetic upgrades, sump pump work, or decorative landscaping.
