By supporting reinvestment and thoughtful redevelopment, the City aims to strengthen local businesses, extend the life of existing infrastructure, and build a more vibrant, resilient downtown for the community.

Get reimbursed for fixing storm water problems—Urbandale’s grant program helps cover the cost of eligible improvements.
Using funds made available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the City partners directly with property owners to develop customized assistance packages. Economic Development staff work one-on-one with applicants to identify barriers to reinvestment—such as aging building systems, site limitations, or infrastructure needs—and help move projects forward.
All assistance packages are subject to City Council approval and are designed to align with the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
Downtown Urbandale generally includes the area bounded by the city’s eastern municipal boundary, 72nd Street, Airline Avenue, and Roseland Drive.
Assistance may support:\n- Building and system upgrades\n- Commercial façade improvements\n- Property preparation for reuse or redevelopment\n- Land assemblage efforts\n- Public infrastructure improvements\n- Mixed-use development projects
Reinvesting in existing buildings reduces construction waste, preserves embedded energy, and makes better use of existing infrastructure—supporting both economic vitality and environmental sustainability.
The most sustainable building is the one that already exists—we’re here to help you reinvest in it.
The City will reimburse 50 percent of the qualifying project costs, up to a maximum set for each type of project. This is an opportunity to invest in your property while reducing out-of-pocket costs. Note: The program does not fund interior repairs, aesthetic upgrades, sump pump work, or decorative landscaping.
