When batteries end up in landfills, they can pose serious risks to soil, water, and even human health. But there’s good news: recycling batteries is an easy and effective way to prevent pollution, conserve natural resources, and keep our community cleaner and safer.

Program Contact: Metro Waste Authority
Metro Waste Authority has partnered with the City of Urbandale to provide residents with a simple, safe way to recycle batteries and small rechargeable electronics. A new drop-off container at the Urbandale Public Library makes it easy—just bag your battery using the provided materials, place it in the labeled slot, and you’re done.
Accepted items include:
Household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, button batteries)
Batteries from power tools
Laptops, tablets, cell phones, and other rechargeable electronics
Collected items are taken to the Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant, where they are safely sorted, refurbished, or properly recycled.
